| A Ph.D. in Economics from the Universidade de São Paulo, has more than thirty years of experience in the public, private and academic sectors. He held important positions in the Federal Government's economic team between 1985 and 1990, and was Head of the Economics Staff at the Finance Ministry. |

| Ph.D. holder from The Johns Hopkins University, Baltimore, Md., USA, 1975. He was director of The Central Bank of Brazil, directly responsible for the conduct of monetary policy, and held executive positions at some banks, like Banco Boavista, Banco BBM, Banco Graphus and Banco Fleming-Graphus. He is presently a member of the Board of Directors of Fundação Getúlio Vargas, and a licensed professor of the Graduate School of Economics, at FGV, where he taught for almost 15 years. His most important published work is "Os Parceiros do Rei - Herança Cultural e Desenvolvimento Econômico no Brasil", a study on the influence of cultural factors on the development process of Brazil. |

He served as an advisor to the Ministry of Administration and State Reform and was a Visiting Scholar do Center for Latin-American Studies da University of California at San Diego. He is responsible for the area of Political Analysis. |
